Work in Progress – the structure

I think it was about 25 years ago when an idea was born. It was the time when I started writing. The idea was big, far too big for a novice writer. But I was stubborn and needed to write it down. I sent it away to Harper Collins Publisher (not just the first chapter but the entire manuscript) thinking “this is it! I’m going the get published, get a movie deal and be rich!”

Well, like I said, I was a novice writer. But 6 months later I received a reply with my returned novel and a letter. They had read all 130,000 words! And after overcoming the usual rejection, I was actually encouraged by what they told me. The end line was “don’t give up, develop your story, and try again”.

So I put the story to bed and left it for years eager to develop it but knowing I wasn’t ready. So I left it some more. 25 years later, I’ve got that twitchy feeling in my fingers and years of ideas are surfacing. But its not going to happen yet. I have ‘THE UNLIKELY KIND’ to finish and a couple of ideas after that. So I think realistically, I will have to wait a bit longer. The story is called ‘THE STRUCTURE’ and will be spread over 3 books. Yes, I will be entering the world of the ‘series’ I talked about on a previous blog. Click here to read A Book Series?

Some stories are best buried until you know its right. Thats times coming!

THE STRUCTURE part 1 coming soon!

  1. Not sure if my comment went through. Trying one more time- just in case. 🙂

How exciting! I think it is great that you got such positive feedback in your rejection. I know rejections are tough, but I find them easier when there is helpful advice or encouragement. It sounds like you have put the book aside for a long time. It will be amazing to read the book you originally wrote with fresh eyes. I think you will have a lot of fun with it when you get to it. Best of luck!
