A Book Series?

Ok, so here’s the thing. Authors/writers of today all seem to be writing novels that are a part of a series. I don’t know if this is the current trend or whether it just looks good when you inform the reader that the story is part of a series. I can’t make up my mind whether it just sounds a bit too cliche. Narnia did it; Twilight was also a success; The Hunger Games; MazeRunner. And, of course, Harry Potter and the Mr Grey series. So is this why people are hitting the series market? I’m still unsure. But never-the-less, my own book, Most of Me was written as a singular novel with no prospect of a second. But I like to leave my options open, so I buried an idea within the story that would suggest that a second novel would be possible. And perhaps a third one too! Hang on there! A series? Yes, this would amount to a series, no matter how cliche I think it would be. But sometimes an idea just screams out to you and it has to be taken by the reigns. A writer can either tame the beast or let the monster loose!

But back to my novel. Like I said there is an idea buried deep within the story. Its so deep that you’ll need to claw your way from the dirt to even realise it’s there. But it is there. Can you guess where it is? I doubt it! But it would twist the story around…totally.

So, as I tap at the keyboard (more with excitement than actually typing, though), I am in thought about my second novel, The Unlikely Kind. But the prospect of returning to Hampton Falls and writing more nightmares for Daniel, is quite teasing. But as a writer has to choose between discipline and writing that second novel in the, dare I say it, Most of Me series, the professionalism in me has to keep on track. So a second instalment may have to wait.

For now though, The Unlikely Kind is in its third draft and is scheduled to be released at the end of 2016.

So, in the mean time, you’ll need to purchase a copy of my book and discover for yourself where the clue is buried!

Good searching…and good reading!

  1. Very interesting pick-up on the series fad that has been taking place! I didn’t really notice it until now. I also think it’s wise to keep your options open with making your book into a series! I mean, hey, Harper Lee never let go of the idea either 😉
